Abstract: The year 1957 was a special year when the Soviet satellite Sputnik was first launched. During that year a number of important papers in physics were published, which provided the foundation for modern quantum physics in the areas of superconducivity, metallic Fermi liquid state and nonequilibrium electron transport. In this talk I shall give a clear historical appraisal of how these areas are interconnected. The talk will be given at a pedagogical level intended for students and researchers.
